Jehol Biota Special Exhibition
The Jehol Biota is an ancient fossil assemblage that lived approximately 125 million years ago during the early Cretaceous period. It was primarily distributed in northeastern Asia, including northern China, Mongolia, Siberia, the Korean Peninsula, and Japan, with Liaoxi in northern China being a representative region. During the early Cretaceous, Liaoxi had a warm and humid climate with numerous freshwater lakes, providing a suitable environment for diverse flora and fauna to thrive. However, frequent volcanic eruptions at that time resulted in the death of surrounding organisms due to volcanic ash and toxic gases, which rapidly buried them. After undergoing extensive geological processes, these fossils have formed the rich fossil treasury known as the Jehol Biota in Liaoxi today.
