Lugu located in the southwest of Nantou County is a natural township. Surrounded by mountains, it has moderate temperature and pleasant and cool air. Lugu is noted for its green industry with seas of tea farms and abundant natural resources. In Lugu area, sparkling fireflies can usually be seen from March to May each year. During the peak time, there are numerous fireflies flying around like starry night!

Fonghuanggu Bird & Ecology Park situated at the foot of the Mountain Fonghuang in Lugu is a division of the National Museum of Natural Science. The Park is an excellent district for nature lovers. Covering an area of 33 hectares, the Park features abundant natural resources and ecosystems, including a variety of insects such as fireflies, spiders, butterflies, and beetles… etc., many endemic species of birds, ruins of 921 Earthquake (1999) and Typhoon Taraji (2001), waterfalls, and mountain trails. The Park offers visitors an excellent spot to get understanding about insect ecology.

To expand our people's understanding about our precious ecological environment, to cope with the Firefly Festival held by Lugu Government Office, and to respond to the Endemic Species Institute's activity of selecting 10 sites that are perfect for your 2013 firefly viewing, the National Museum of Natural Science hosts a series of firefly tours at the Park, aiming at strengthening our people's concept of protecting our ecological environment. The tour should appeal to nature lovers, especially firefly lovers!
