Grandparents, as well as mothers and fathers, deserve a special honoring holiday. Initiated in 2010, the government of Taiwan decided to remind children about the important role that their grandparents play in their life and chose a perfect day for its celebration. School starts in Taiwan in September, thus Grandparent’s Day is observed on the last Sunday in August so that children can spend a lot of time with their grandparents.

There are four purposes for National Grandparent’s Day:

  1. To honor grandparents.
  2. To give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children.
  3. To help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.
  4. To strengthen family bonds.

In celebration of Grandparent’s Day 2016, the Museum is offering free admission to its theaters, galleries, Botanical Garden, Science Center, and three Education Parks for seniors over 60 on that weekend (8/27-28), and hosting workshops and lectures in conjunction with the Brain: The Biology of Mind special exhibition for grandparents and their grandchildren.
