The National Museum of Natural Science was founded on January 1, 1986. Since then, the whole staff has been affirming the following statement of mission:

The missions of the National Museum of Natural Science are to collect and preserve Taiwan's biological diversity; to enhance individuals the knowledge of and delight in natural science and related subjects; and to promote the museum of the first class.
