‘Khumba: A Zebra's Tale’ produced by South Africa-based Triggerfish Animation Studio and directed by Anthony Silverston is a 2013 3D computer-animated comedy film. It won the top animation honor at the South African Film and Television Awards in 2014, and receives good reviews from New York Times.
The film is about Khumba (voiced by Jake T. Austin), a zebra who is half-striped like a quagga and blamed for the lack of rain by the rest of his insular, abusive, superstitious herd, except his dad, mom and Tombi, a young female zebra friend close in age. Joined by lively wildebeest Mama V and ostrich Bradley, Khumba sets out on an adventure to find a mystical fountain for earning his stripes. On their trip they are hunted by the dangerous, ruthless half-blind leopard Phango (voiced by Liam Neeson) on a mission to gain more power. Tensions between Khumba, Mama V, and Bradley escalate as they move on. Khumba is berated and scolded for putting the herd at risk. Will Khumba defeat Phango, find the waterhole, and get his stripes? Join us to feast your eyes with the fantastic 3D family adventure and feast your ears with amazing 3D sound effects.
