    * Human Cultures
    This newly renovated Hall of Human Cultures presents the remarkable medicine, technology, and spiritual life of Chinese people. It also offers the most comprehensive evidence of the history of Taiwanese agriculture ever assembled. And, it explores the world of Taiwanese aborigines and Oceanians. This permanent hall has been renovated into a cutting-edge hands-on exhibition space.
    1. The entrance to the Human Cultures Hall faces Shi-tun Rd., and is the same as to the Global Environment Hall.
    2. You can also enter this Hall from the entrance to the Life Science Hall.
    3. Chinese Medicine, Chinese Agriculture, and Chinese Science & Technology galleries are located on the main floor, Ancient Chinese, Chinese Spiritual Life, and Taiwanese Aborigines galleries on the second floor, while Oceania gallery is on the lower level.
    4. The newly renovated gallery of Taiwan Austronesian has opened to the publc. Check back soon for information.

    Oceania

    This new exhibition presents Oceania's millennia of history and reflects a remarkable geographic and cultural diversity through 249 artifacts, ranging from masks, sculptures, paintings, textiles and ceramics, four fifths of which were collected and donated by Max Liu – an outstanding man and artist in Taiwan. The 10 thematic areas of this permanent gallery include: The birth of Oceania, The origin and spread of Pacific peoples, Oceania's ethnic groups, Indigenous knowledge and descriptions about Oceania, Ocean to Pacific peoples, Land to Pacific peoples, Diversity and change in Oceania, Settlements and dwelling, Warfare, and Body art.

    Chinese Medicine

    An example of a traditional Chinese apothecary.

    Inspect the development of the Chinese character for "Medicine"; Get a rare glimpse of the world's earliest model of human body, and find out the acupuncture points on it; Take a review of important events in the history of Chinese medicine, and witness the furnishings of a typical Chinese pharmacy, including more than 80 herbs commonly used by Chinese doctors. You will be astonished that Chinese medicine has made a great contribution to not only Chinese people, but all human beings.

    An herb garden outside this gallery displays more than 100 species of living herbs. See what they are.

    Chinese Science and Technology

    Water-powered Armillary (Sphere) and Celestial (Globe) Tower

    Can you imagine that science and technology emerged in China hundreds or even thousands of years earlier than in Europe? This gallery attempts to trace Chinese scientific and technological achievements through the use of relics and historical records such as Chao-chou Bridge, the watertight compartment, a water-powered clock, an apparatus for astronomical observation, a celestial globe, an armillary sphere, and exquisite lacquer.

    Agricultural Ecology (the original Chinese Agriculture)

    This newly renovated gallery starts with a description of the agricultural origins in Mesopotamia, India, China, and Mid-south America to inspire the visitors to get a general idea of the development of agriculture over time. It also chronicles the agricultural history and events of China from Neolithic Age (12500 – 2000 BC) to the present day, and explores Taiwan agriculture and ecology. In addition to showcasing a life-size cupper sculpture of a cowboy on a Taiwan Water Buffalo and a cart of 1960s, the gallery uses a trilingual (English, Chinese, and Taiwanese) straw man to tell the whole story of Taiwan agriculture, and how it is affected by imported crops now.     A diorama depicts the lifestyles of the Pei-Li-Kang and Ts'u Shan cultures.

    China is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. Uncover the secrets of ancient Chinese of the Stone Age and the Shang Dynasty. Marvel at written records on turtle shells and bronze artifacts from the Shang Dynasty. Satisfy your curiosity about the royal palaces and tombs. See how ancient Chinese lived by their wits. The Museum’s magnificent collection of a select of ancient objects associated with the cult of gods will amaze you.

    Taichichuan: ancient Chinese exercises for good health.Han People Spiritual Life

    A wide variety of images of Gods and religious implements illustrate that Han people have lived a rich spiritual life since as far back as the Shang Dynasty. We also explain the order of lineage in Han society and social norm and religious retribution for good or evil dead deeds through films, charts, or models.
