The World of Light

August 7 - November 30, 2008
At the atrium in front of the Microscopic World gallery

Light is such a normal part of these modern times that we rarely stop and think about it. We use vast amount of it every day, but usually only notice it when it is absent.

On August 7, the National Museum of Natural Science proudly unveils The World of Light, an immersive and interactive science exhibition. This exhibition invites people to play with light so that they are able to feel it physically and gain a correct concept about it.

Through infrared cameras and infrared thermography, The World of Light will satisfy your curiosity about the secret of our body and tell you what the real world looks like. It will explain how come the fireflies emit light, how come the glow sticks are capable to produce light without requiring an electrical power source, and why some cheap jade artifacts or fruits look so attractive. Also, for ladies who hate suntan, this exhibition teaches them tips on avoiding suntan and tells them if their suntan lotion or any other anti-sun devices really work.

Aside from static knowledge absorbing, you will be immersed in hands-on science in an exciting multimedia environment with dazzling special effects direct from video games. This hands-on exhibition brings to life fundamental scientific principles, numerous scientific disciplines, and the most advanced technology and techniques used today.
