Volunteers
To tap into the society’s resources and to create opportunities for public involvement in the museum, NMNS established a volunteer support program in 1986. Through this program, volunteers work in five major areas: visitor services, education, answering of inquiries, administrative support and specimen collection. Excluding student group, corporate group and senior high school student volunteers, as of 2020 the number of volunteers exceeds 1,393. Volunteers are recruited each year in September. In addition to the opportunities for learning and personal growth, there are many benefits for museum volunteers. The museum provides casualty insurance, complimentary tickets, birthday voucher, free admission to the museum, social activities and training as welfare feedback. Spirit of service is encouraged through rewards and incentives. Volunteers are very important to the museum, helping to expand the museum’s education and other functions.
