Cinnamomum camphora is a large evergreen tree. It is aromatic. Branchlets are blackish and pubescent. Leaves are glabrous, trinerved above the base, with two marked glands in the nerve axils at the base of blade. Panicles are axillary, many-flowered. Fruit is globose, blackish when ripe. It grows in primary forests, but also in open localities from lowlands up to altitudes of 1500m.
