觀察蝶角蛉自產卵到孵化過程。蝶角蛉於細小的枯枝或禾穗上卵產，整齊排列成線形，剛產下的卵呈淺土黃色，每顆卵僅0.1公分大，當卵呈深咖啡色時，即開始孵化。蝶角蛉幼蟲長相很特別，有一對鉗狀的口器，用來捕捉昆蟲並吸食體液。剛出的幼蟲體色淡且通透，經過一段時間就變黑。長大成蟲後的外觀像蜻蜓，頭上有一對類似蝴蝶的觸角，所以被稱為「蝶角蛉」。

Observations of owlflies from laying of eggs to hatching: Owlflies lay neat rows of eggs on small withered branches or ears of grain. Newly laid eggs are earthy yellow and measure only 0.1 centimeter. When they become dark brown, this signals that they are about to hatch. Owlfly larvae are very unique. They have a pair of pincer-like mouthparts, which they use to catch and suck body fluids from insects. Newly hatched larvae are light in color and transparent, becoming darker over time. Adults look similar to dragonflies, except for a pair of butterfly-like antennae.
