The common moorhen is a resident bird of Taiwan that builds its nest with aquatic plant material along paddies or near swamps. Breeding season is from April to July. There may be two clutches per year, with 5-8 eggs per clutch. The chicks are precocial and walk as soon as they hatch, following their mother in search of food. With their long legs and toes, they easily move among floating plants and are adept swimmers. Within 72 days, juveniles are able to live indepedently.
