帝王蝦是一種共生蝦，經常出現在海蛞蝓等大型無脊椎動物身上，像搭便車一般。對帝王蝦而言，和海蛞蝓等大型動物共生具有保護作用；海蛞蝓身上的黏液和食物碎屑是帝王蝦的食物來源。但是對海蛞蝓而言，帝王蝦似乎只是一個可有可無的共生夥伴。
The emperor shrimp lives commensally on large invertebrate hosts, such as sea slugs, which provide protection. In addition, emperor shrimp feed on the mucus and food debris from sea slug hosts. For the sea slugs, however, the emperor shrimp is not essential.
