Introduction
At 14:48 on June 21, 2020, the moon came to a point between the earth and the sun and all three were lined up. The cone-shaped shadow projected onto the earth's surface looked like a small dark dot and an annual solar eclipse began in the area around Yunlin and Chiayi counties in Taiwan. As the magnitude of eclipse increased, the visible section of the sun narrowed. At 16:13, the moon covered the sun completely. Baily’s beads appeared and the “Ring of God” formed around the maximum of eclipse. The spectacular “Ring of God” lasted less than a minute. Baily’s beads were formed by sunshine piercing through the bumpy contour of the moon. If we align and overlap successive images of Baily’s beads, the contour of the moon will be revealed. If you missed it, the next one will be in another 195 years! Image1: A composite picture composed of successive images of the eclipse. Image2: Maximum of eclipse and Baily’s beads. Image3: The contour of mountains and valleys at the edge of the moon.
