Introduction
Birth and death are part of life. After death, an organism can provide nutrients, forming a circle of life. We often think of butterflies as lingering among flowers, collecting nectar, and pollinating. Many butterflies also exhibit a behavior called mud-puddling. They look for moist substances, such as soil, feces, and even blood, tears, and carrion from which they obtain nutrients such as salts and amino acids. A gossamer-winged butterfly has discovered a dead beetle and stopped to suck up its fluid. The beetle looks like the hull of a ship and the butterfly like its sail. Together, they form a boat of reincarnation that represents the circle of life.
