Before paradise fish start courting, males blow bubbles on the surface of the water. When bubbles aggregate, males display bright colors to attract females. When a female is attracted to a male, she slowly swims towards him. The male bends its body into a U-shape. When he comes in contact with the female, he immediately grasps onto her and turns her over, such that she spawns abdomen up, enabling the eggs to reach the air bubbles where they remain until they hatch.
