The distribution of the line forest-skimmer (Cratilla lineata) is in mountainous areas of Tainan and southward. They are rarely seen in winter. This set of images is from the Kantou Mountain Trail in Tainan. When the temperature falls below 16℃, the tail of this dragonfly bends towards its back. At 7℃, it forms a semicircle. Under cold conditions, it can stay on a branch for two or three days. When the sun comes out and the temperature returns to above 18℃, the tail straightens and it flies away to seek food. There are many branches but these dragonflies gather on just one. With many birds nearby they stay safe this way. This is quite an ecological wonder.
