Acupuncture Figure with 14 Meridians

The acupuncture section of the Chinese Medicine Hall at the National Museum of Natural Science displays two human Figures : one is a replica of the "Acupuncture Bronze Figure " and the other is an "Electric Acupuncture Figure ." A new addition, the "Acupuncture Figure with 14 Meridians ," has been added to make it easier for visitors to observe the meridian points on the human body.

Huang Wei-Chih, Vice Chairman of the Taiwan 14 Meridians Association, shared his experience in learning the meridians, likening the 14 meridians to 14 express highways, with the interchanges being key to smooth flow. Dr. Pan Long-Sen mentioned that by understanding meridians, people can also better understand their own bodies. Besides massaging acupuncture points, using a hairdryer around the navel and other areas can also be effective, emphasizing that consistency is important for maintaining health.

The earliest human Figure in the world appeared during the Northern Song Dynasty. Wang Wei-Yi, an imperial physician, cast a bronze Figure with meridian points and wrote the book "Illustrated Acupuncture Points on the Bronze Figure ."  "The Acupuncture Figure with 14 Meridians "  is made of fiberglass with a gold powder coating, standing 190 cm tall and weighing 25 kg. The names, numbers, and distances between acupuncture points on the Bronze Figure comply with WHO standards. Additionally, extra extraordinary meridians are marked, including dozens of points, which are 21 points on the head, 6 points on the chest and abdomen, 15 points on the back, 14 points on the arms, and 13 points on the legs.

This Figure was kindly donated by Dr. Pan Long-Sen on February 27, 2019.
