Poetry of the Wild: Habitat Memories of Taiwan’s Native Herbaceous Plants

Nature is not absent from the city. It is reshaped by architecture, reappearing in overlooked places: the shade of balconies, the softened light of courtyards, the wind-swept edges of rooftop gardens, and the seams of building façades.

Poetry of the Wild: Habitat Memories of Taiwan’s Native Herbaceous Plants showcases Taiwan’s native wildflowers and herbs, highlighting how life persists in urban environments. As cities redistribute light, water, and wind, these plants sustain micro-ecosystems while carrying the memory of their original habitats.

Spanning five urban micro-landscapes—north- and south-facing cascading balconies, cool humid shaded courtyards, dry shaded courtyards, and rooftop gardens—the exhibition traces an ecological gradient from low-light and moist to high-light and dry, echoing valleys, forest understories, forest edges, and grasslands. Here, the wild is not elsewhere; it continues to breathe and grow within the city.
