Harmony with Geothermal: A Sustainable Dialogue on Humanity, Resources, and Environment

Geothermal energy is more than a stable, low-carbon energy source in a time of climate change and Taiwan’s energy transition. It also opens a door to understanding the relationship between the Earth, the land, and the way we live.

This exhibition recounts geothermal myths from around the world. In stories of geothermal power, we see how different cultures have embedded feelings of wonder, healing, reverence, and trauma into collective memories. Through the sciences of geology, geothermal engineering, and energy, the exhibition invites visitors to explore how geothermal power is generated, stored, and circulated, and how it is explored, developed, and converted into electricity and resources for everyday life.

Examples from Taiwan and around the world show how geothermal energy drives agriculture, tourism, craft, and local industries. Also examined are the issues that come with development, including land rights, environmental safety, risk management, and public engagement.

There is no single path to a sustainable future. As an island shaped by active plate boundaries, Taiwan has rich and diverse geothermal resources. The path forward depends on balancing energy needs, environmental constraints, and local ways of life through shared reflection and understanding. Only then can Taiwan build its own geothermal future and thrive together with the land.
