General Ecological Introduction to Twelve Reptiles of Orchid Island
Following 18 years of observation and collection, from 1997 to 2015, a total of 26 species were discovered on Lanyu (Orchid Island), including three species of amphibians, 18 species of land-dwelling reptiles, with a new record of Mabuya cumingi, one species of sea turtle and four species of sea snakes. Among them, in-depth research was conducted on the life histories of eight species of land-dwelling lizards. The population dynamics of one species of snake, its unique foraging behavior and interaction with sea turtles, as well as restrictions in the food chain and their influences on the choice of nesting sites by local lizards, are introduced. This exhibition provides general ecological introductions to 12 reptile species on Orchid Island. It is hoped that this will provide fundamental information for students or scholars interested in studying the biodiversity of Orchid Island.
