The arils of Myristica ceylanica var. cagayanensis are especially attractive. When the fruit is split, they appear bright red. These red filaments are the cost of attracting large and medium-sized animals to disseminate its seeds. Once people discovered their benefits, they began harvesting them to use as seasoning and medicine.
