Lateral and other body scales

Most grass lizards have scales similar to this. Dorsal and ventral scales are larger with finer and smaller lateral scales in between. Many species have white lines along the sides with lateral scales in areas of nuptial coloring. For example, the green spotted grass lizard (Takydromus viridipunctatus) has inkjet-like emerald green spots. Pictured here is a lateral view of the Formosan grass lizard (Takydromus formosanus). This photo was taken with the TORI FOCUS system.
