Sapphire

The chemical composition of sapphire is mainly aluminum oxide. The blue color is due to trace amounts of iron and titanium ions. Superior grade sapphires emphasize hue and saturation. Chromatic zones should not be obvious. The highest quality color is blue with a little bit of cornflower blue hue. On display is a rough, uncut, double cone sapphire from Sri Lanka, measuring approximately 6.5 centimeters in length. In addition, there are two other specimens. One is a five carat blue sapphire gemstone ring from Sri Lanka and the other is an approximately 22.5 carat star sapphire from Myanmar.
