Olivine

In Latin, olivine refers to olive green color. There has been a long history of development and use of olivine. Early on, about 3,500 years ago in ancient Egypt, olivine was mined on an island in the Red Sea and used to produce accessories and ornaments. Gemstone-grade olivine is of bright color and olive green is of best quality, while golden green is of high quality. In this exhibition, there are two rough olivine specimens from Pakistan. One includes rarely seen large crystals with length of 8.5 centimeters and weight of approximately 200 grams. In addition, there are five round facet cut stones from Myanmar. Each is between 1.72 and 3.17 carats.
