In traditional puppet theater, xiaosheng characters wear a brocade costume. This is a rich buffoon and is a sanhua type role. On its head is a xiaosheng wrap. This is mostly worn by young treacherous characters or rich buffoons. Small peach-shaped wings have been tucked into the back of the headgear, which sway as the puppet’s head moves, reinforcing the uniqueness of the character and enhancing its comical effect.
