Japanese Police

The Japanese police officer role appeared during the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan (1895-1945). Towards the end of this period, the Japanese government recruited puppet theater troupes to perform Japanese dramas, and this role appeared more frequently. This puppet was produced in 2011 by the National Museum of Natural Science for its puppet show, Seediq Bale and modeled after the wide-mouthed Xiaoquezai character in traditional puppet theater. Its mouth was specially made to move up and down, and it is dressed in a Japanese police uniform.
