Perny's long-nosed squirrel

  • Scientific Name:Dremomys pernyi owstoni
  • Family Name:Family Sciuridae

This squirrel is slightly smaller than Pallas's squirrel but its snout is longer. Its abdomen is a beautiful shade of yellow. The tail is large, full, and ash brown. Its distribution is throughout Taiwan in broad-leaved and coniferous forests in mountainous areas at 1,000-2,800 meters above sea level. This squirrel is diurnal and prefers to move along the ground, picking up fruits and seeds that have fallen to the ground. As its populations are not widely distributed, it is difficult to observe. There are not many published reports on Perny’s long-nosed squirrel and detailed ecological information is lacking.
