Brown rat
This is a common household rat. It is an alien species with a worldwide distribution. It is large and weighs 350-450 grams. Its dorsal pelage is ash brown with some black hairs mixed in and somewhat coarse. The tail is relatively thick with a length that is equal to or a little less than the body length and is of two colors. The dorsal surface is ash black and the ventral surface is dirty white. Its paws are white, a characteristic that distinguishes it from other rat species. It mainly inhabits environments where there is human activity, especially fish ponds, ditches, and sewers. It is adept at swimming but not at climbing. Therefore, in homes it is most often seen on the first floor or in the basement. It feeds on pet food and kitchen waste, preferring fatty foods and meats.
