Schizophyllum commune
The split-gill mushroom is like a lonely white-haired old man. There are only six species in one genus and one family in the world, but it is everywhere. It is found wherever there is dead wood and is easy to identify. The cap is fan-shaped, ash white, with hairs. Along the margins of the cap are irregular splits. The edges of the gills split forming grooves with curled lobes.
