Most sea stars have five arms. However, this orange sea star has nine. The number of arms depends on the variety of sea star. The orange sea star has mostly 9-10 arms. This orange sea star was collected off the coast of Dawu, Taitung County by a vessel carrying out research for the National Science and Technology Council at a depth of around 1,300 meters. This is a deep sea species. The orange sea star is a member of the family Solasteridae.
