Meandrusa payeni

The yellow gorgon began to diverge around 20 million years ago in the early Miocene epoch. There are six subspecies widely distributed in the Indomalayan realm. Wingspan is 8-9.5 cm. The body and wings have yellow markings of different shades. Among males, the apex of the forewings is pointed and the tail extensions of the hindwings are elongated and curve outward. The phylogenetic relationships of the genus Meandrusa have only recently been clarified. This is a sister group of the genus Papilio.
