Papilio antimachus
The giant African swallowtail is a member of the subgenus Princeps, with divergence around the late Miocene. There are two subspecies. Wingspan is 18-25 cm, with orange and black markings. This is Africa’s largest and the world’s second largest swallowtail butterfly after the world’s largest birdwing butterfly. It is toxic, with its body containing cardiac glycosides. The larval foodplant is unknown. Its distribution is in tropical Africa (Angola, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, Republic of Sierra Leone, and Uganda).
