Papilio blumei
The green swallowtail is a member of the subgenus Achillides. Divergence began during the late Miocene, around 10 million years ago. There are 25 species and around 100 subspecies in this subgenus. This branch diverged around 18 million years ago (early Miocene) and originated in Sundaland and Wallacea. Wingspan is 12-14 cm. The forewings and hindwings are black with blue-green stripes. Along the tips of the hindwings are irregular chains of blue and green dots. The tail extensions are sapphire blue with a black wing vein running through, which is quite conspicuous. The larvae feed on plants in the Rutaceae family such as Euodia sp. and Toddalia sp. They are distributed only on the island of Sulawesi in Wallacea and there are two subspecies in the north and south, respectively.
