Jar-shaped vessel

Accession no.: MTPII-2012-PT0343

Site: Machipu site

Height: 270.0 mm

Mouth diameter: 90.0 mm

This round-bellied jar is made from ash gray coarse sand clay, with a high degree of sand inclusion. It has an everted mouth, round lip, bulging belly, and round bottom. There are wheel marks on the inside and outside of the rim. The mouth is quite narrow and short, barely large enough for the palm of a hand to fit through. On the neck is a pattern made using fingernail impressions. Below the neck is a depressed platform. In the center of the body and above (including the platform) is a neat and dense impressed pattern of blood cockle (Tegillarca granosa) shells, each facing in the same direction.
