Begonia parvula blooming in tissue culture bottle
Native to Guangxi and Yunnan provinces of China, this is a wild species that has not been artificially cultivated but that has great horticultural and ornamental value. Dormant tuberous begonias mainly grow in rock crevices. After losing their leaves, they use their tubers to survive the seasonal drought in their native areas. Plants that enter the tissue culture system can avoid dormancy and bloom in bottles, as well as be developed into indoor ornamental plants.
