In Taiwan, the mauve elfcup is distributed in areas of low to medium elevation and is the most common member of the genus Phillipsia. Most members of this genus are disk-shaped. The fruiting body is fleshy to rubbery and reaches a diameter of up to 10 cm. The hymenium is usually mauve to pink and occasionally orange to brown.
