Cyrtarachne akirai is in the family Araneidae. It builds an orb web to trap prey, often at night, in low-elevation areas.

This spider measures around 1.5 cm in length and its abdomen is enlarged and triangular in shape, with whorl markings on both sides. As such, it resembles bird guano. This guano-like appearance makes it difficult for predators to detect it.
