Gasteracantha sauteri (adult female)
Gasteracantha sauteri is a spiny orb-weaver in the family Araneidae. Adult females measure around 1 cm in length. Like other species in in the Gasteracantha genus, it has a hard abdominal carapace with spines. However, one pair of spines is extremely long, measuring around 3 cm from end to end, which is its most distinctive feature.
The hunting methods of this species and the black-and-white spiny spider are very similar. They both weave orb-like webs with tuft decorations and barrier web. This species can be found in hilly and mountainous areas at low to medium elevations.
