Indian sundew
Characteristics: Annual, upright, herbaceous plant, approximately 15 cm in height. Possesses single stalk. Leaves are long, narrow and linear, 4-6 cm in length and 0.2-0.25 cm in width. From the apex, they narrow to a point, finally becoming filiform and winding, with yellow to red glandular hairs. Flowers are white, diameter approximately 0.9 cm. Sepals, petals, and stamens all number 5, style numbers 3. Ovoid capsular fruit.
Distribution: Widespread distribution across tropical Asia, Africa and Australia. In Taiwan, it is only found in the northern areas of Taoyuan and Hsinchu in damp, sandy soil.
Properties: Insectivorous. As it is found in places where the soil is highly infertile, it can make use of heterotrophic nutrition.
Specimen introduction: S. Yano specimen no. 205. Collection site is described as Sou-taw-yah-tsun, which refers to present-day Shantouzaizhuang in the Miaoli area. Collection date is January 13, 1897. This specimen number can be found in the collections of LE and TNM.
