Murdannia loriformis (Hassk.) R.S. Rao & Kammathy
Characteristics: Upright herbaceous plant, with two types of stems: extremely short nutrient stem and upright and branched scape. Basal, linear leaves, 8-40 cm in length and 5-7 mm in width. Stem leaves are linear to lanceolate, 1.3-8 cm in length, 4-8 mm in width. Scorpion tail-shaped umbel, terminal inflorescence, oval bract. Capsular fruit, 4-5 mm in length, each chamber with two brown seeds.
Distribution: India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Ryuku Islands, southern China and Taiwan. In Taiwan, it is found all over in open areas at low elevation, including on Lanyu (Orchid Island) and Green Island.
Specimen introduction: S. Yano specimen no. 1. Collection site is described as Sinchiku, which is present-day Hsinchu. Collection date is June 26, 1896. However, from comparisons of the S. Yano specimens in the collections of LE and SAPS, there are also two other 1a specimens. However, the species, collection sites and collection dates all differ.
