Giant Unearthed- a Taiwan Whale's Tale看展覽
In a valley of the Hengchun Western Tableland, a large number of cetacean fossils have been preserved.
Besides fragmented ribs, vertebral centra, and ear bones, National Museum of Natural Science have unearthed several cetaceans of varying sizes at this locality. Among them, the largest individual is estimated to be over 18 meters long, marking the largest and most complete fossil record in the history of Taiwanese paleontology.
Beginning on May 28, 2022, and continuing for nearly three months, researchers from the National Museum of Natural Science, along with students from over a dozen universities and high schools, participated in Taiwan's third major fossil excavation.
