達爾文曾說：「物競天擇，適者生存。」彩鷸雛鳥剛破殼就得下水生活，母系社會使得彩鷸公鳥特別辛勞，從孵蛋到育雛，全程一手包辦。然而，這4隻彩鷸寶寶仍不受上帝的眷顧，被一旁虎視眈眈的夜鷺和泰國鯉魚拿去祭五臟廟。圖為彩鷸公鳥帶著出生不到一天的雛鳥學習生活技巧，記錄彩鷸父子辛苦的畫面，極具意義。

The phrases “natural selection” and “survival of the fittest” are associated with Charles Darwin. Greater painted snipe chicks learn how to live in and around water as soon as they hatch. It is the males of this species that incubate the eggs and care for the young. These four chicks did not receive God’s protection and became food for nearby night heron and snakehead. These images show a male greater painted snipe teaching less than one-day-old chicks life skills. They are meaningful portraits of the care provided by greater painted snipe males to their offspring.
