多數昆蟲都有一對大型複眼,是其主要的視覺器官,位於頭部兩側,具有球形、卵形、腎形等多種形狀。複眼由數量不等的小眼聚集而成,以蜻蛉目為例,每一顆複眼包含的小眼數目可多達10,000至30,000之間。複眼可以辨別色彩及方向,其優點是能夠提供極其廣闊的視野,並可有效地判斷自身與所觀察目標之間的方位、距離,從而有利於昆蟲作出更快速的判斷和反應。

Introduction

Most insects possess a pair of large compound eyes, which serve as their primary visual organs. These eyes are located on either side of the head; their shapes vary from spherical to oval to kidney-shaped. They are typically composed of various quantities of ommatidia. For example, in order Odonata, a compound eye can contain 10,000 to 30,000 ommatidia. Compound eyes enable insects to distinguish colors and determine direction. The advantage of their eyes is that they provide an extremely wide field of vision, enabling the insect to judge the position and distance of observed objects accurately. Therefore, insects with compound eyes can react quickly.
