Robber flies are expert predators of the insect world, commonly found in low-altitude forests, thickets, and grasslands. Their distinctive features include a pair of compound eyes, transparent wings, and thick, needle-like mouthparts, all of which enable them to master flight, reconnaissance, and hunting. This work showcases a robber fly hunting a longhorn beetle that is much larger than itself. The robber fly targets the beetle’s soft joints, injecting saliva containing toxins and proteolytic enzymes to paralyze and digest it. Even members of the order Coleoptera, with their hard exoskeletons, cannot escape and become food for robber flies.
