天竺鯛的護幼行為是由雄性負責，將卵含於口腔中並不定時地翻動換水。在這期間，雄魚會停止進食，專心照顧後代。這隻八棘扁天竺鯛口中的魚卵已經可以看到眼睛，除了代表雄魚的任務即將告一段落，也預示著離孵化的日子不遠了。

Male cardinalfishes are responsible for caring for the young. They carry fertilized eggs in their mouths, periodically turning them over and aerating them. While caring for the eggs, males do not eat; instead, they focus solely on their duty. From the eggs in the mouth of this eightspine cardinalfish, eyes can be seen, indicating that hatching is not far off and that this male’s child-rearing days are coming to an end.

設備：使用Olympus TG4與防水殼PT-056，加上一盞攝影燈與閃燈(INON Z330)。使用水肺於夜間拍攝，水深約9米
設定：ISO 100, F/14, 1/100s。影像後製調整色溫、曝光、對比、飽和度與裁減等，並用遮色片調整畫面明亮。
