蚜獅是草蛉的幼蟲，具有發達的口器，能用來捕捉與吸食獵物。有些蚜獅會將物品堆疊在背上，這些物品來源五花八門，可能是被捕食的獵物遺骸、植物的碎屑，或是其他昆蟲脫下的空蛻；初次見到這些蚜獅的人，通常難以看清牠們的真面貌，大部分注意力都會被背上的物品吸引。這隻蚜獅背上已經背了許多東西，其中最顯眼的是幾乎與其體長相當的黑色蟲蛻。在弱肉強食的世界中，背上堆疊的物品就是牠最好的偽裝。

Aphid lions are the larvae of lacewings that possess well-developed mouthparts used to capture and suck on prey. Some aphid lions stack various materials on their backs, including the remains of captured prey, plant debris, or the discarded molts of other insects. Those encountering these larvae for the first time often find it difficult to see their true forms, as most attention is drawn to the materials on their back. This aphid lion is already carrying many items, the most conspicuous being a molt of black stink bug nearly as long as its own body. In a world where the strong prey on the weak, the stacked materials on its back serve as its most effective camouflage.
