Summary

It has been five years since I came to this museum in 1992. During this period, I have been learning how to be a curator while continuing my research. I still have some difficulties in adjusting to the role of museum curator. Diversity is a major feature of natural history museums. The aspects of my job are much more diverse compared to my peer in universities or research institutes. For a simple-minded person like myself who can only focus on one thing at one time, working in a museum really is a difficult thing. On the other hand, however, it also enlightens my life.

My research interest is mainly carbonate sedimentology, especially the impacts of sea-level changes to carbonate deposition and diagenesis. I studied the Upper Carboniferous depositional cycles in New Mexico, United Stated in my doctoral dissertation. Since working in the NMNS, I have studied: the influences of the Pleistocene sea-level changes on the deposition and diagenesis of the Hengchun Limestone, Taiwan; the relationship between thrust-front migration and the Pleistocene reef development in southwestern taiwan; modern coastal sedimentation and coastal evolution in Penghu, Taiwan. Now I am doing a project regarding sea-level signals in the Pleistocene caebonates of the Nansha Islands.
