蚜蟲天生柔弱，對於某些天敵較無招架之力。蚜蟲在吸食植物汁液後，會從屁股排出具糖份的蜜露。被蜜露吸引的螞蟻，在獲取蜜露的同時，也會保護蚜蟲免於天敵的攻擊，二者因此相互受惠，此種關係稱為互利共生。本作品記錄蚜蟲分泌蜜露，以及螞蟻取食蜜露的畫面，藉以闡述自然界生態之多樣性。

Aphids are weak and unable to defend themselves against some predators. After ingesting plant sap, they excrete sugary honeydew from their anus. Ants, attracted by the honeydew, eat it, while protecting the aphids from attack by their natural enemies, making their relationship mutually beneficial. This is referred to as mutualism. These images are records of aphids excreting honeydew and ants eating it, to illustrate the ecological diversity of the natural world.
