蝴蝶成蟲的口器特化為吸管狀，因此多以吸食液態食物為主，如花蜜、水、樹汁等。食肉的蝴蝶較為少見，有的時候看到牠們在吸食肉類，其實是在攝取鹽份或胺基酸。這是一條剛死亡的黑眉錦蛇，一群青帶鳳蝶被牠散發出來的氣味吸引而聚集，展開這場蝶吻盛宴。

The mouthparts of adult butterflies are specialized. Shaped like drinking straws, they are used to suck up liquids, such as nectar, water, and tree sap. Carnivorous butterflies are rare. If appearing to be sucking on meat, they are actually ingesting salts or amino acids. This beauty rat snake (Orthriophis taeniurus) recently died. A swarm of common bluebottles (Graphium sarpedon connectens) attracted by its odor gathered and began to feast on it, looking as if they were giving it butterfly kisses.
